Participants in a seminar on the sale of medicines via the internet, sponsored by the ALDE group at the European Parliament, on 15 April, encouraged the European Commission to focus on promoting information on medicinal products. "Today, we are facing a large number of challenges, such as the sale of counterfeit medicines via the internet, e-prescription and e-consultation, which could lead to serious risk for patients, or misleading information on disease management and treatment," declared Bulgarian MEP Antonyia Parvanova. She stressed the importance of improving and escalating controls on this market. MEPs also urged search engines to cooperate more closely with the competent authorities to combat sales of falsified drugs pending the adoption of more complete legislation on internet sales of medicines.
