- The NSW government will rush through new police powers after a second night of race-related
violence. The government says criminals have "declared war" on the city but they would
not win.

- A woman in suburban Melbourne has chased down a thief who snatched her handbag, grabbing
it out of his moving car. She was also flung onto the road.

- A former Victorian boarding school supervisor was today jailed for sex offences.

The court heard the man would touch boys as they slept.

- A female teacher also appeared in a Melbourne court today charged over allegations
she had sex with a male student.

- Victorian Premier Steve Bracks calls for an inquiry after grizzly photographs of
murder victims were found in a rubbish bin.

- The Federal Court hands back almost 300 square kilometres of land to aboriginal people
in Victoria. The land is on the edge of a national park north-west of Melbourne.

- Melbourne's Spencer St Station has been renamed Southern Cross Station as its multi-million
dollar reconstruction continues.
