Qld: Ill boy arrives in Brisbane
An East Timorese boy in need of urgent surgery for a blocked bowel has arrived in Brisbane.
Four-year-old AUGUSTO OCTAVIO COSTA and his mother ANNA were flown from the highlands
of East Timor near Dili to Darwin in an RAAF Hercules transport plane yesterday.
Paediatrician DARRELL PRICE says AUGUSTO was born with a blocked bowel and treatment
for his condition wasn't available in East Timor.
Dr PRICE says doctors in East Timor had advised AUGUSTO was also suffering from malnutrition
and required urgent surgery to be able to survive.
AUGUSTO and his mother will be taken to the Allamanda Hospital on the Gold Coast tonight.
