WA: Warning on broken or damaged cords follows electrocution
A warning on broken or damaged power cords and appliances has been issued after twodeaths in the West Australian town of Karratha.
Earlier this month, a woman and her five-year-old daughter were electrocuted in thenorth-west town.
The 23-year-old woman had been using a high-pressure washing unit to clean paving whilethe child was playing in the spray.
ALBERT KOENIG, from the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection, says theplastic feet that helped guard the power cord from damage were missing.
As a result, the cord had become damaged due to chafing on the ground and the userswere electrocuted.
Mr KOENIG says the manufacturer of the water cleaner -- a Stihl RE104 mobile unit --will write to the purchasers of every unit warning them of a similar occurrence.
He's urged the products' users to regularly check all electrical appliances and powercords for damage.
